the ah pek who loved me

Listening to: Terrorgruppe - “All Cops Are Bastards” - Short Music for Short People

While writing this post, I suddenly thought of the following and decided to put it first since it makes seem like less of a “serious” post. I was reminded of my older brother, whom people said was cute when he was a baby because he looked Chinese. And the time a local celebrity said he was the best looking Malay guy she’d met. Make of that what you will.

While working at the firm I often had to run errands, which often meant I had to literally run around the CBD. I had to go to SIC building along Shenton Way, where you actually select the level before getting into the elevator. I found that interesting. Anyway, I got into the lift with this old Chinese man. He smiled at me, so I smiled back. He then asked what race I was, that is, whether I was Chinese or Malay. I replied that I was Malay, then he said I was very handsome.

I bolted the second the lift stopped.

based on a true story

Listening to: Rage Against the Machine - “I’m Housin’” - Live at the Grand Olympic Auditorium

I took my driving test on Wednesday and failed.

Later while on my way to Masjid Kassim I saw Suhaimi Yusof crossing the road. I could see the contempt in his eyes and as I passed him he mocked me in no uncertain terms as the loser who couldn’t even drive a car. I tried to explain to him my general lack of enthusiasm in driving an automobile, and my questioning of rampant car culture as a means of both status and transportation and its impact on the enviroment.

He chose to simply brush me off, and sauntered into a nearby coffeeshop to grab something to eat.

I didn’t know what else to say at that point.

this is the new sound, just like the old sound…

Listening to: Rage Against The Machine - “No Shelter” -

Rage Against The Machine reform to play Coachella

Well, this is one headline I wasn’t expecting anytime soon. Too bad they’re not playing Good Vibrations. Ah, the Rhyme and Reason Tour 2000… we never knew ya.

Also, Tom Morello to release solo debut.

urgent plea

Listening to: Hüsker Dü - “Turn on the News” - Zen Arcade

I’m currently collecting used clothes on behalf of my aunt for flood victims in Johore. If you’d like to contribute, do leave a comment here. Thanks.

EDIT: Mercy Relief and the Red Cross are both helping flood victims in Malaysia. You can visit their websites to find out how to donate to their efforts.

Peace.

don’t call it a comeback

Listening to: Sufjan Stevens - “The Dress Looks Nice on You” - Seven Swans

It’s been a long time, I shouldn’t have left you
Without a strong rhyme to step to
Think of how many weak shows you slept through
Time’s up, I’m sorry I kept you

In case anybody doesn’t know already, I left the job I had been working at. It was fun, and the people were really nice, but ultimately the hours were what killed it. I was misled into thinking that it was an office hours job when in reality I was at work twelve hours a day on the regular. I mean, I guess I could’ve left at 6 on the dot everyday, but realistically there was so much work piling up that your office hours work day wasn’t an option. Working there was eating into pretty much everything else I had to do, and so I left. It was supposed to be a temp arrangement anyway.

It would be nice to have a regular income, but I’m not seriously looking for anything full time or long term right now.

Little Mosque on the Prairie

Listening to: Miles Davis - “Jeru” - The Complete Birth of the Cool

Little Mosque on the Prairie is a show about a Muslim community in a small town in Canada that recently started airing on Canadian network CBC. The embedded video above is of the first episode (it takes forever to load, and I’m really not exaggerating by much). It’s getting all the usual knee jerk reactions from the ignorant and I’m sure that some Muslims will take offense with it. Mostly though, it’s not a terribly funny show. There are some good lines here and there, and it’s better than quite a few of the Mediacorp comedies that have been produced over the years, although that’s not saying much. It might get better after the pilot, and I certainly hope that it does but I’m not holding my breath.

Sitara Hewitt is incredibly hot though.

Peace.

Listening to: Quicksand - “Clean Slate” - Quicksand

go ‘head switch the style up
If the niggas hate then let ‘em hate
Watch the money pile up

Fresh for 2007, suckers. Got my hair cut on the second day of the year I believe. I actually got it cut again today because I forgot how fast my hair grows. In any case, I’m going to let grow out again from now on. I’m planning to exploit this chance to explore the maximum amount of hairstyles this year.
